graphics or gameplay do you think matter ...

i say gameplaygraphics or gameplay do you think matter ...
It really depends, as technology improves graphics really are able to make up for a certain digree of poor quality in other areas. First case I can think of would be Doom 3. The game wasn't necessarily anything special in terms of game mechanics but it looked amazing and had more atmosphere then most games even to this day. That made up for the fact that it was a constant flow of go into room, get attacked from behind or the side, move on to hallway, kill things, repeat. A more recent example would be Crysis for pc, the gameplay is nothing special but since it looks so good a lot of people don't care. That said when all games look that good gameplay will have to take the front as people won't be so impressed with how it looks. Personally I've never cared about how a game looks, I only even notice it at all if i've just finished playing something particularly flashy. But i'm someone that usually plays a game for the story rather then the gameplay or the graphics. For me a game can play terribly and look like crap but if the story is exceptional I can forgive a lot of things. graphics or gameplay do you think matter ...
Graphics!! no matter how crappy the game is, i have no problem playing it if the graphics is godly.
Gameplay of course. Good graphics can most times enhance gameplay but they only go so far..
Idk.... I love Elder Scrolls 2 Daggerfall and that has crappy graphics. But I liked Two Worlds manly because I thought the graphics were nice. Also the art-style of a game is more important than how detailed something is. Doom 3 had mega detailed graphics, but that was all inside a base, while Halo CE had horrid graphics in comparison, but I thought the ''Silent Cartographer'' level was far more beautiful than anything that was in Doom 3.
probable gameplay but graphics will keep me coming back even if the game isnt that good....

Graphics don't have to be the greatest technically, but they have to at least be ''clean'' for me to enjoy the game. A game where everything's all blurry and crappy-looking is just hard for me to enjoy - for example, I enjoy playing OoT (I only got the game about a year ago, so nostalgia isn't affecting my perception) much more than, say, MOH: European Assault. OoT's graphics aren't as good technically, but they're much more clean. Art style also has a lot to do with it; a game could have great technical graphics but have an absolutely horrible art style.Of course overall I think gameplay matters much more.
I have always said that Gameplay is most important for a game and great graphics are a bonus.
Gameplay of course. Good graphics can most times enhance gameplay but they only go so far..
True. Gameplay matters more but like you say graphics help too. A good example of graphics helping gameplay is Doom 3. Most of us know Doom 3 is a repetitive game experience, but running it on Ultra Quality on 1024x768 makes the game look gorgeous with the flashlight on and generally running through the game.
graphics should be the icing on the cake not the focus. Perfect example of this is Mercenaries 2. Pandemic wasted all their time making the game look shiny while the rest of the game is gltiched to hell and devoid of reasons to play. They need a swift kick to the balls.
I say gameplay. If you have great graphics and really boring gameplay, you'll eventually lose the ''ooh shiny'' factor and the game will be useless.
gameplay ofcourse.
Gameplay. Graphics come right after :P
gameplay. if the gameplay is ****ing perfect and the graphics are garbage, i don't care i'll still love it.
Gameplay BY A MILE
Gameplay.
Graphics!! no matter how crappy the game is, i have no problem playing it if the graphics is godly.
Sarcastic?
gameplay. if the gameplay is ****ing perfect and the graphics are garbage, i don't care i'll still love it.
That's what I'm about to say. :) Awesome graphics can't save/help a crappy gameplay. But what I'm really after in games is the story. I tend to stop playing if I can't get into the story even if the gameplay is enjoyable. Story > Gameplay >>>>>>> Graphics
gameplay all the way
