u should get a Genesis (or a Nomad). The best games that are exclusive to the Genesis are the Road Rash (I,II, and 3), Vector man, Virtua Racing (there's a 32x and Genesis version), Streets of Rage 2 or 3 (the first one is just ok), Sonic (1,2 and 3), Battletech, and golden axe (1 or 2). One game i think you MUST get if you do get a genesis is ''6-pak''. It has Sonic 1, Golden Axe 1, Streets of rage 1, Columns, Shinobi, and Super Hang on. It's definately a good intro to older sega games.sega consoles
The Sega Genesis is the best entry point for anyone who wants to try out a Sega console. Its cheap, has a huge library of games, and its very easy to find. There are a ton of classics on the Genesis.Sega fans also like the Sega Dreamcast and the Sega Saturn. The Dreamcast is pretty sweet but the library of games does not compare to the Genesis or even the Saturn. The Saturn is good if you can play import games (its more hardcore)To get started though, the Genesis is a great console.
get the genesis.it had some cool games back in the day.i liked the dc too. i still have a genesis and the dc,but get the genesis first and play some good old school games.
DC is also cool.
Definitely the Genesis. Great library of games.
cheers for the advice. the genesis seems like a good place to get the 'sega experience'.out of interest, what are the 'must-plays' on the saturn? are they all import?
My advice for you would be to get the Mega Drive collection for the PS2/PSP first and foremost. If like you say you've never owned a SEGA console or played much of their games. This would be the ideal purchase to get you started.
the best one to get is a genesisget games like:vectormanstreets of ragesonicany of those names of gamesand if you have a ps2 or gc get a sonic plus, sonic gems, or any other sonic collection
The Genesis / Mega Drive, the best and most successful Sega console, is probably where you should start. I posted two handfuls of games for it in another recent thread on here, so I'm not in the mood to do it again. ;)But, yeah: Get a Genesis. And if you like it check out the Saturn and Dreamcast too. Don't bother with the Master System unless you turn into some Sega fanboy. ;)
megadrive collection seems the cheapest option, but i think i might hunt down a mega drive console. i don't want my ps2 to lose it's identity by being capable of playing ports from nearly every other console in history.thanks for the help, anyway.
You could just get the Sega Genesis Collection for the PS2. It has alot of great games on there. It's also out for PSP.
the genesis is the best of the 6 consoles and 2 hand helds, nomad and gg are ok for handheld, but genesis is the best because it has many good games, saturn and dc arent as good becayse the games are harder to come by and the ones you find may be sports titles or cost you a good chunck of money eg duke nukem 3d - saturn 49,99 ya thats the cost of a wii /ps2 game today , still wondering why people charge 49 for a saturn game when they know its old and out dated ,
Get a genesis. If you can find one, get a Sega CD.If you're getting games just for sheer fun factor... I think you can skip Sonic 1 and 2 since the Sonic sequels were always better than the one before it until Sonic %26 Knuckles. That was the start of Sonic going downhill.I'd also suggest all 3 Streets of Rage games. Alot of people like 2 the best, but I think its the easiest one and has the combat gets old quick. 1 is alot of fun, has a 2nd ending and I just like it better (might be nostalgia). 3... 3 is frustrating. Its the best out of all of them but it is insanely hard. I haven't played Megaman 9 but the way people describe that game as spirit breaking and hard just for the sake of being hard reminds me of Streets of Rage 3. That game is just a beast. And you can't drop the difficulty or you get the waste of time ending where everyone just like, ''I don't think we'll ever know what really happened... play again on a harder difficulty''. The combat is pretty in depth for a beat-em-up, the stages are cool, you get tons of characters, and I know that there are at least 4 different endings. There may be more but I never played the game on Hard/Hardest difficulty so there might be more.If you can find a Sega CD, you should buy Sonic CD. I'm a sonic fanboy and thats the only classic sonic I never played, but I always heard it was the best one when it came out (but it came out before Sonic 3 so maybe 3 is better).
i can't stand sonic games for the most part, but i LOVED sonic cd. it alone was worth the purchase of my sega cd. there are also a few good rpgs on the sega cd, but they don't come cheap.i wouldn't bother with the 32x, i've got one and it pretty much just looks cool, and i can play half of doom on my genesis... and tell people... yeah, i've got one.i love my saturn, the games are hard to come by and the memory carts are hella pricey if you get the 1st party ones, but if you're a fan of the 32-bit generation, you'll enjoy it.i'm really disappointed with the dreamcast though, i've only got two games for it, both are good and i liked playing them, but finding other games is a chore. there's no shortage of good ones, it's just that they're pretty expensive.
