PS memory cards with the PS2?

Do japanese sony PS1 memory cards work with a NA PS2 and NA PS1 games?PS memory cards with the PS2?
I have no way of knowing for sure but I don't imagine there is any difference in the memory cards. I'de be very surprised if they didn't work fine in a ps2 from any region. Now if it's save game data in question I know you can't use a PAL game save on a NTSC game because i've done so with my psp.PS memory cards with the PS2?
