Old games better than new one's

Do you think old games of the late 80's and early 90's are far better than new games of today. They were so simple back then and now they have to be so advanced and have online multiplayer and cutting edge graphics, Gaming has become so complicated all the time. Also without those 2d games we would not have the games we have today.Old games better than new one's
some old ones are better than new ones and some new ones are better than old ones...yeaOld games better than new one's
Classic games will always surpass the new ones but some of today's games are good.
Either that, or reviewers were MUCH more honest back then.
The old ones are the ones that would always revolutionalize gaming. The new ones just constantly try to live up to that name.I notice that a lot of people these days will always pick the new games though, just for better graphics. Me? Mmmm...no.
yeah, now now stander to better is just graphics but gameplay bad
like I said on another post,Gears of War 2 vs. DOOM. I think we all know who wins. Gears 2 of course. While classic games will always have a place in my heart, shooters and action games have vastly improved from those ten years ago, making them almost unplayable compared to todays' standards. If anything games are getting better.

Back then, people thought Sonic 3 and Knuckles (A GOOD GAME, mind you) was mediocre and akin to Mega Man 4 in what it was doing. Today, reviewers will hump a Final Fantasy until an Editor's Choice comes out.
I started gaming in the late '90s, and I can still enjoy any games from as far back as the SNES era without relying on nostalgia. I can't get into 8-bit games though - I tried to play the original Legend of Zelda recently and just couldn't enjoy it.

If anything games are getting better.[/QUOTE]i guess it depends on what you mean by 'better'. i agree too that games are getting better in some ways; for instance the 'playability' factor is much more improved - playing a game isn't a nightmare, the user-interfaces are nicely designed and the controls are responsive and stable (mostly anyway). graphics have gotten...well, they've gone 3D, which isn't necessarily better, but it's a whole new dimension. on the whole though, games look prettier now than they did in the 8-bit days. but i guess 'pretty' depends on your own tastes as well.. i guess that can be called 'aesthetic'.companies can't afford to make crap games anymore since the costs of dev are so damn high. there's still rubbish though (movie tie-ins, mini-game shovelware etc.)but yeah a lot of the games now are based on old 8-bit designs, so no wonder the first games make more of an impression. if we're talking about something that is objectively 'better' all-around, then that's different thing from innovation. i feel there has been less conceptual innovation in the design area, and the industry is repeating itself, but simultaneously making those same things (shooting, jumping etc.) feel better/cooler/faster etc.
i just think older gamers are less impressed because these gameplay mechanics aren't as revolutionary as they were in the 90's
I like older games from the PS1/N64/Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox/Gamecube type games. But new ones are good. I just think games these days look too realistic. But I do plan on getting a 360 in December I HOPE!!!

I'd have to agree on most old FPSs compared to newer ones-they can't compare, not just in graphics, but also because we want something more than find-the-key-and-the-exit. However, there are some older first-person titles I'll take over newer ones (for instance, System Shock 1 over whatever drab brown-and-grey bloom-fest with gobs of shader effects and gameplay that basically amounts to get-from-point-A-to-point-B-and-kill-every-predetermined-enemy-that's-in-between that gets released nowadays).

Also, other action games haven't aged too well. The first Zelda gives us all warm, nostalgic feelings, but it just can't compare to later games released with a similar mold, like Crystalis or especially Zelda: A Link to the Past.

However, games are missing something nowadays. I'm still waiting for a new game that lets you tackle a given problem however you see fit like the first Deus Ex and also has plenty of funny and otherwise emotionally evoking dialogue ala Star Control II (as well as an antagonist you almost feel pitiful for, just not quite enough to stop exacting revenge for whatever foul deeds he/she/it already did).

Like Mega Man 9, or....others. Yea, not that many, from what I can remember.
